luck from outside the area. The shot is well struck and on target, but
goalkeeper Stephan Straub saves comfortably.
13' Aachen are definitely the sharper of the two sides. Jens Scharping
collects the ball on the edge of the area but his shot goes well over the
crossbar.
12' Good break from Aachen. Simon Rolfes collects the ball in midfield and
finds Erik Meijer but the Dutch striker is ruled offside. It looks a very tight
decision.

but briefly looks like it will sail over Dionisios Chiotis into the net, but the
goalkeeper manages to catch the ball.

gives Aachen a glimmer of an opportunity, but the ball is eventually cleared.

here tonight. Despite this, the home fans are still in good voice.

Despite remaining unbeaten in their domestic league, lying third in the table
three points behind leaders Olympiacos CFP, AEK's form in Europe has been poor
and they are still to pick up a point going into their final fixture. They
warmed up for this by drawing 1-1 at Xanthi FC at the weekend, but Portuguese
coach Fernando Santos will be unable to call on Stavros Giorgiopoulos tonight,
after the left back suffered a broken leg in that match. He is replaced by
Nikolaos Georgeas. Defender Bruno Alves returns from suspension but Ghanaian
Kofi Abonsah is out injured. Aachen suffered their first defeat in six games at
the weekend, 3-2 at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, a result that saw them slip to
fourth place in the table. However, coach Dieter Hecking has no injuries and can
pick from a full squad.
With the Greek side already eliminated, the qualifying scenario from this group
is relatively simple. If the Germany 2.Bundesliga side win this game, then they
will join Sevilla FC and LOSC Lille Métropole, who face each other tonight
to see who tops the group, in the last 32 of the competition. However, if the
match ends in a draw or a home win then FC Zenit St. Petersburg of Russia, who
have completed their fixtures, will advance.
